The Teenage Ambassadors program, started in 1990, is an exchange program for high school students in Japan and overseas, which aims to provide students with opportunities to deepen their understanding of each other's histories and cultures and form lasting friendships, through activities like courtesy visits to embassies, attendance of school lectures, homestays, visits to cultural heritage sites and hands-on experience of traditional culture. In 2005 and 2009, reunions were held for former teenage ambassadors who are now pursuing various careers around the world.
